- A. In the back of my mind, I kept seeing a powerful modern day warrior who fought with ancient weapons in a continuing battle against the darkness. At first, I wasn't sure what that darkness represented or what the the cost would be for that warrior to keep picking up his sword to head back into battle. I live near the volcanoes of the Pacific Northwest, so it seemed only natural to have them play a significant role in the books. Finally, Devlin Bane and his fellow warriors walked into my life to become the Paladins.
