Amy Wechsler

Amy Wechsler, MD, is a dermatologist and a psychiatrist, one of only two doctors in the country who are board-certified in both specialties. Evidence of the mind-beauty connection walks into her office every day: "Premature aging and adult acne are the two most common skin problems I see, and stress and exhaustion are often at the bottom of both," she says. Dr. Wechsler practices in New York City, where she lives with her husband and two kids. She is a member of the RealAge Scientific Advisory Board.

What I'm Passionate About
By Amy Wechsler - November 17, 2008
I have recently started playing the drums again and I am so passionate about it!  I played from 4th grade through high school, but since my drums weren't exactly portable, I didn't take them to college and just stopped playing. But this August I bought myself an amazing electric drum set, found an incredible teacher, and I am really into it again!  My family has been supportive with having my drums in the living room (!), and while my chops are not yet in shape, I've found that reading music again is relatively easy.  I just learned how to play "Stairway to Heaven," and I am beyond excited about it!  I've always loved music, and playing drums at the end of the day is a great way for me to de-stress.

I'm also passionate about 2 organizations - Women for Women International (www.womenforwomen.org <http://www.womenforwomen.org/> ) and the Jane Goodall Institute.  WFW was founded by Zainab Salbi, who is one of the most incredible people I have ever met, and WFW helps women survivors of war to rebuild their lives.  JGI protects chimpanzees and their environments—I spent a few magical days at Gombe in Tanzania in 1992 and I have become much more involved with them in the last few years.
