Author Revealed:
Q. What is your motto or maxim?
A. Currently, I'm fond of 'Abandon your story'. It's about allowing yourself to stop writing and allowing other people to start reading your work, which is, after all, the point of the exercise.

The sun is out at last in Ireland and I've just remembered that this time last year a spider moved in to the wing mirror of my car. It was a real speed junkie. It only ever came out when the car was in motion when it would crawl down the web between the mirror and the driver’s door and squat there, trembling, while I hurtled along the A37 at a terrifying fifty miles an hour.  Every time it came out, it had grown bigger. By the end of the summer, it was almost the size of a small fist. I began to get a little intimidated, but still, I didn’t disturb its web. Then one day, in a car park in Coleraine, I was returning with the ticket when I saw it scramble down the side of my dusty Ford Focus and head straight for a Jaguar convertible. Like they’re going to leave a cobweb on the wing mirror for two months. I drove to the car wash next day. There’s just no loyalty.
