She grew up in Texas in a newspaper family, which explains her love of writing, but she earned a law degree and practiced law before making the decision to write full time. A. Do your best.

A. I don't really identify with either one of them, as I share few traits with them, but I always was drawn to Elizabeth I and Mary, Queen of Scots.

A. people pontificating on a subject they don't know anything about

Q. Who is your favorite fictional villain?

A. de Bois-Gilbert, the Templar Knight in Ivanhoe; I found his love and desire for Rebecca and his inner struggles, his desire to save her, all to be much more compelling than the bland and noble hero.

Q. What’s your greatest flaw?

A. laziness
