Cecilia Samartin

Cecilia Samartin was born in Havana in the midst of Fidel Castro's revolution. She grew up in Los Angeles as a fully bicultural, bilingual American. She studied psychology at UCLA and marriage and family therapy at Santa Clara University. Deeply concerned with the lack of Spanish speakers in her profession, Cecilia has practiced within the Latino communities in some of the most impoverished inner-city areas of San Jose and Los Angeles. She lives with her British-born husband in San Gabriel, California.

A. Dare to dream

A. The deep hearted sense that I'm living my life, and fulfilling my purpose.

A. Summertime (Gershwin), Stairway to Heaven (Led Zeplin), The Impossible Dream (Man of La Mancha), Edelweiss (Sound of Music), Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters(Elton John), Romeo and Juliet (Dire Straights)

Q. With whom in history do you most identify?

A. Anne Frank. I read her diary when I was thirteen years old and this remains one of the most moving reading experiences of my life. Although I didn't realize it until years later, she is the one who first inspired me to write.

Q. If you could acquire any talent, what would it be?

A. I would love to be able to play classical guitar like Christopher Parkening.
