What I'm Passionate About
By Harry S. Dent Jr. - November 12, 2008
My economic research actually stemmed more from my hobby of studying history and long term cycles. In recent decades there has been astounding breakthroughs in different areas of science that have allowed us to see all the way back to the big bang. It excites me to see how cycles repeat and even huge levels. Just like atoms look a lot like our solar system and hurricanes look a lot like galaxies, the cycle of the universe follows the same four seasons as our annual weather and our economy over 60 – 80 years. Before I started my economic research, I spent a lot of time studying long term history and cycles. Now I am spending much more time again, but more from scientific input than written history.
My other great passion is travel. I’m not as much into sightseeing as finding spots with rare natural beauty and cultures that are very different from ours. It is most interesting to see people throughout the world living in different cultures and different stages of life and evolution. You can see almost the entire spectrum of human evolution over many thousands of years today in different parts of the world. And that feeds into my natural passion for long term history and cycles.
