Ivan Sanchez was born in the Bronx, New York City, in 1972. He left the inner city in 1993, and earned an associate's degree in applied science from Virginia's ECPI College of Technology and a bachelor's degree in management from the University of Phoenix. He currently holds a supervisory position with a major manufacturing organization in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and works as a youth advocate and motivational speaker in his spare time.

Q. What is your motto or maxim?

A. Some choose to dream hard, others wake up and work hard to make their dreams come true.

Q. What is your favorite occupation, when you’re not writing?

A. Mentoring the youth.

Q. What are your most overused words or phrases?

A. I use the word phenomenal a lot. But it’s mostly because I haven’t found an equally powerful and express word to state the obvious when I think something is simply phenomenal.

Q. With whom in history do you most identify?

A. Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King. Both men had true passion for human rights at their most rudimentary level.

Q. What do you regret most?

A. Hurting my daughters Heaven and Starr during the separation of their mother and me.
