Q. What is your motto or maxim?

A. I suppose it would be something as simple as 'do your best'. I'm a firm believer that hard work is more important than talent, though if I had more talent perhaps I'd see it differently. On the whole though I've never really had a maxim; I don't think you can get away with witty generalisations about life until you're at least 60, and even then, only really if you're Gore Vidal.
