Q. If you could meet any historical character, who would it be and what would you say to him or her?

A. I would slip into Scott of the Antarctic's tent, pitched out on the Ross Ice Shelf in late March 1912, and ask his right-hand man, Birdie Bowers, why he doesn't make a dash for the safety of One Ton Camp, only 11 miles away. This is before they all perish from cold and starvation. I would also offer him a hot cup of cocoa, then worry about having upset the time-space continuum and wrecked all of history.

A. Poor typography drives me nuts

A. I love weeding. When I run out of weeds of my own, I start on other people's gardens.
