Nina de Gramont is the author of the acclaimed Meet Me at the River and Every Little Thing in the World as well as the story collection Of Cats and Men and the adult novel The Gossip of Starlings. Q. What is your motto or maxim?

A. "Write a little every day without hope or despair" -- Isak Dinesen

Q. If you could meet any historical character, who would it be and what would you say to him or her?

A. Andre Trocme, a French pastor who led a very courageous and nonviolent resistance during World War II.  I would thank him for inspiring me with his courage, and his faith, and ask him how he overcame his fear in order to do what he knew was best.

Q. If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you choose to be?

A. Oh, someplace tropical. With a white sand beach and a lovely pool overlooking the ocean.

Q. What are your most overused words or phrases?

A. Those terrible old standbys, "like" and "you know."

Q. What’s your best quality?

A. Thoughtfulness.
