Nomi Eve

Nomi Eve is the author of The Family Orchard, which was a Book-of-the-Month Club main selection and was nominated for a National Jewish Book Award. She has an MFA in fiction writing from Brown University and has worked as a freelance book reviewer for The Village Voice and New York Newsday. Her stories have appeared in Glimmer Train Stories, The Voice Literary Supplement, Conjunctions, and The International Quarterly. She lives in Philadelphia with her family.

Q. What is your motto or maxim?

A. Gather around the table, eat, talk, laugh, love.

Q. How would you describe perfect happiness?

A. My happiness is a big fat cliche -- being surrounded by my wonderful family, everyone accounted for, everyone safe, happy, healthy and well fed.

Q. What is your favorite occupation, when you’re not writing?

A. laughing with family and friends or swimming, or reading, or watching too much t.v.

Q. With whom in history do you most identify?

A. I'm a fiction writer, and I generally write historical fiction, so I honestly have to say that the person in history I most identify with is the next person I will probably make up.
