- Q. Do you have one sentence of advice for new writers?
- A. Take acting classes to better your craft and think of yourself as an entrepreneur, with your books as your products and your publisher as your partner.
- Q. How did you come to write Harlem Redux?
- A. I was living overseas and thinking about home. I knew a lot of expats and people who were living in political exile. The idea came to me to write about a man who was living in self-imposed domestic exile -- in the 1920s.
