Q. What are your most overused words or phrases?

A. I really overuse emoticons. And "really." Not in books but in email and tweets.

Q. If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you choose to be?

A. On the beach in Gaipu, in northeastern Brazil, barefoot in the sand, drinking coconut water through a straw and listening to a street singer.

Q. Who is your favorite fictional villain?

A. So many to choose from. Severus Snape, because he's so complex, much more interesting than Voldemort. Richardson's Lovelace in CLARISSA, both hero and villain.
