A. I generally love rereading books, as it means I can jump straight to my favourite passages. The ones I've reread most often are probably The Golden Notebook by Doris Lessing, The Quiet American and The Power and the Glory by Graham Greene, Disgrace by J.M. Coetzee, A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, as well as my big book of German poetry and another big book of Grimm fairytales.

A. Writing novels.

The Hackney Pirates, a brilliant literacy project in east London, was one of the less visible victims of this week's riots - their building was evacuated on Tuesday and they had to cut short their summer school workshop that afternoon, sending the children home with riot police guarding the street and helicopters circling overhead.
