A. Oh, my gosh. If I could only have the freedom to write every day and not worry about the bills. Okay, I'll throw in a vacation home as well. Why not.

A. They're changing all the time, but I aspire to Faulkner & Morrison & Marquez. I listen to voices of Isabel Allende & Junot Diaz & Dorothy Allison. And I lose myself in Ha Jin & Sandra Cisneros & ZZ Packer.

A. I never planned on writing a novel. WHY I FIGHT was what I thought was only a short story until it started demanding more from me. And I listened.
